Artistic Themes #2

Ecology I hope to work as a scientific/medical illustrator someday after college and hope to create more pieces that inform and help others learn from them. To take my work beyond the textbook diagrams all college students are familiar with my basic idea is to still use the style of textbook diagrams but to comment on how humans have such a negative impact on the environment around us. Art in the Twenty-First Century artist, Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle uses images from nature; clouds, mountains, icebergs, as metaphors to show the social climate on issues such as gun violence. His work and my basic idea go hand in hand. I want to explore more of the environmental factors humans have on nature, while he is commenting on the societal changed using natural images. I am really drawn to Maria Sibylla Merian’s work; she was the first illustrator to record the relationships between insects and plans. Similar to what I wish to do with humans and nature.
